In both occidental and oriental traditions, philosophers have long treated the martial arts as pursuits worthy of philosophical reflection. This is the first substantial academic book to lay out the philosophical terrain within the study and understanding of the martial arts and to explore the significance of this fascinating subject for contemporary philosophy. The book is divided into three sections. The first section concerns what philosophical reflection can teach us about the martial arts, and especially the nature and value of (...) its practice. The second section deals with the other direction of the dialectical interplay between philosophy and the martial arts: how the martial arts can inform philosophical issues important in their own right. Uma investigação sobre "a judicialização da política e a politização do judiciário" restrita ao bom funcionamento do "Estado de Direito" se veria presa dos prejuízos que a própria ideia de "Estado" acarreta, consubstanciados na teoria que lhe dá suporte, a teoria da soberania. É preciso escapar ao "estadocentrismo" e um dos modos de fazê-lo é investigar as noções de "poder" e de "direito". Neste artigo, investigamos essas noções em Merleau-Ponty e Lefort.

Tiberius' speech at the outset of the trial of Cn. Calpurnius Piso, as Tacitus reports it at Annals 3.12, sheds light on two discrepancies between relatio and response in the recently published senatus consultum de Cn. Pisone patre.

This paper considers Grotius's emendations to the text of Tacitus in his 1640 Notae et emendationes, with a particular emphasis on those passages in which Grotius has made a lasting contribution to our understanding of the ancient author: An. 1.32.3, 6.3.1, 11.14.3, 15.47.1, H. 2.1.2, Ag. 10.5, 46.2. It also argues that in four further passages his contribution deserves to loom a little larger in the text, or at least in the apparatus criticus, of Tacitus's works than it presently does. (...)
