    “CRISPR for Disabilities: How to Self-Regulate” or Something?Amanda Courtright-Lim - 2022 - Journal of Bioethical Inquiry 19 (1):151-161.
The development of the CRISPR gene editing technique has been hyped as a technique that could fundamentally change scientific research and its clinical application. Unrecognized is the fact that it joins other technologies that have tried and failed under the same discourse of scientific hype. These technologies, like gene therapy and stem cell research, have moved quickly passed basic research into clinical application with dire consequences. Before hastily moving to clinical applications, it is necessary to consider basic research and determine (...)

Is Trust Like an 'Atmosphere'? Understanding the Phenomenon of Existential Trust.Jeffrey M. Courtright - 2013 - Philosophy in the Contemporary World 20 (1):39-51.
This article defends what I call the atmospheric claim about trust: at least one form of trust manifests itself in human life in a manner that is like an atmosphere (generalized, ambient, and diffuse). I also provide a provisional defense of the claim that trust is a necessary condition for the thriving of something that matters to us. I offer a phenomenological sketch of existential trust. Existential trust is a primordial and atmospheric (generalized, ambient, and diffuse) manifestation of trust that (...)

An ethics code postmortem: The national religious broadcasters' eficom.Jeffrey L. Courtright - 1996 - Journal of Mass Media Ethics 11 (4):223 – 235.
All ethics codes serve an argumentativefunction to improve public opinion, avoid government regulation, and produce ethical behavior among members. The National Religious Broadcasters' increased eforts to enforce its code illustrates the potential for three dificnlties to surface when organizations use codes to justify their activities. Organizations tend to limit public discussions to the code 's existence, and shorthand descriptions of it, fail to address enforceability problems, and assume that the code will change corporate culture. To overcome these problems, ongoing maintenance (...)

Prolonged immigration detention, complicity and boycotts.Melanie Jansen, Alanna Sue Tin & David Isaacs - 2018 - Journal of Medical Ethics 44 (2):138-142.
Australia’s punitive policy towards people seeking asylum deliberately causes severe psychological harm and meets recognised definitions of torture. Consequently, there is a tension between doctors’ obligation not to be complicit in torture and doctors’ obligation to provide best possible care to their patients, including those seeking asylum. In this paper, we explore the nature of complicity and discuss the arguments for and against a proposed call for doctors to boycott working in immigration detention. We conclude that a degree of complicity (...)

Toward Transparency and Trust: Assessing and Addressing Key Ethical Concerns in Normothermic Regional Perfusion.Amanda Buster, Ellen C. Meltzer, Lisa Trost, Amanda Courtright-Lim, Timothy Ingall & Jon Tilburt - 2024 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 52 (1):178-182.
Normothermic Regional Perfusion, or NRP, is a method of donated organ reperfusion using cardiopulmonary bypass or a modified extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) circuit after circulatory death while leaving organs in the dead donor’s corpse. Despite its potential, several key ethical issues remain unaddressed by this technology.
