  1. Influence of Subjective/Objective Status and Possible Pathways of Young Migrants’ Life Satisfaction and Psychological Distress in China.Yi-Chen Chiang, Meijie Chu, Yuchen Zhao, Xian Li, An Li, Chun-Yang Lee, Shao-Chieh Hsueh & Shuoxun Zhang - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
Young migrants have been the major migrant labor force in urban China. But they may be more vulnerable in quality of life and mental health than other groups, due to their personal characteristic and some social/community policies or management measures. It highlights the need to focus on psychological wellbeing and probe driving and reinforcing factors that influence their mental health. This study aimed to investigate the influence of subjective/objective status and possible pathways of young migrants’ life satisfaction and psychological distress. (...)

Governance Structure and the Credibility Gap: Experimental Evidence on Family Businesses’ Sustainability Reporting.Josh Wei-Jun Hsueh - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 153 (2):547-568.
This paper examines the success of corporate communication in voluntary sustainability reporting. Existing studies have focused on the perspective of the communicators but lack an understanding of the perspective of information recipients to clearly evaluate this interactive communication process. This paper looks at the issue of a credibility gap perceived by external stakeholders when they doubt the authenticity of communicated information due to the reporting company’s governance structure. The paper uses family businesses to exemplify the emergence of such a gap (...)

Reclaiming care: refusal, nullification, and decolonial politics.Vicki Hsueh - 2024 - Contemporary Political Theory 23 (1):1-21.
This article examines how care functions as a critical feature in decolonial political theory and the politics of refusal. In recent years, political theorists have emphasized how refusal challenges the legitimacy of settler colonial government, asserts indigenous presence, and fuels decolonial politics. Care, I argue, plays a significant and under-examined role in the politics of refusal. I look, first, to the writings of William Apess to better examine the cruelty of settler colonial care and to highlight how indigenous reworkings of (...)

Colonialism and its Legacies.Taiaike Alfred, Dipesh Chakabarty, Enrique Dussel, Emmanuel Eze, Vicki Hsueh, Margaret Kohn, Pratap Bhanu Mehta, Sankar Muthu, Bhikhu Parekh, Jennifer Pitts, Ofelia Schutte, Jessé Souza & Iris Marion Young (eds.) - 2011 - Lexington Books.
Colonialism and Its Legacy brings together essays by leading scholars in both the fields of political theory and the history of political thought about European colonialism and its legacies, and postcolonial social and political theory. The essays explore the ways in which European colonial projects structured and shaped much of modern political theory, how concepts from political philosophy affected and were realized in colonial and imperial practice, and how we can understand the intellectual and social world left behind by a (...)

Cultivating and Challenging the Common: Lockean Property, Indigenous Traditionalisms, and the Problem of Exclusion.Vicki Hsueh - 2006 - Contemporary Political Theory 5 (2):193.
The article takes up and challenges the Lockean conception of common sense and common right to property in two ways: first, through a critical investigation of Locke's historical connection to colonialism, and second, by turning to contemporary indigenous conceptions of common sense. Locke's practical experiences in the founding of Carolina, I argue, serve not simply to explain the problematical colonial impulses of the Second Treatise, but indeed to help undo the credibility of that text's ideological claim to acquire and assimilate. (...)

Viewing Fantastical Events in Animated Television Shows: Immediate Effects on Chinese Preschoolers’ Executive Function.Hui Li, Yeh Hsueh, Haoxue Yu & Katherine M. Kitzmann - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Three experiments were conducted to test whether watching an animated show with frequent fantastical events decreased Chinese preschoolers’ post-viewing executive function, and to test possible mechanisms of this effect. In all three experiments, children were randomly assigned to watch a video with either frequent or infrequent fantastical events; their EF was immediately assessed after viewing, using behavioral measures of working memory, sustained attention, and cognitive flexibility. Parents completed a questionnaire to assess preschoolers’ hyperactivity level as a potential confounding variable. In (...)
