  1. Vera Zasulich’s Critique of Neo-Populism.Constanza Bosch Alessio & Daniel Gaido - 2015 - Historical Materialism 23 (4):93-125.
Vera Zasulich’s shooting of Trepov, a governor of St Petersburg who had ordered the flogging of a political prisoner, in January 1878, catapulted her to international fame as a revolutionary heroine, a reputation that she put to good use by becoming one of the five ‘founding parents’ of Russian Marxism that created the ‘Group for the Emancipation of Labour’ in 1883. But her act of self-sacrifice also triggered, to her dismay, the institutionalisation of individual terrorist tactics in the Russian Populist (...)

  14. The problem of movement in phenomenology between the philosophy of reflection and Neoplatonism.Rotundo Alessio - 2024 - Metodo. International Studies in Phenomenology and Philosophy 11 (2):143-167.
In this paper, my aim is to outline a tripartite systematization of the plurivocal senses of movement in phenomenology. In particular, I follow Eugen Fink’s speculative integration of the phenomenological method as providing a broad map to orient the interpretation of phenomenologically informed studies of movement. My interpretation focuses on the role of Neoplatonic concepts and terms in Fink’s own systematic recasting of phenomenology. As a result of the development of self-critical discussions of method in phenomenology in connection with Neoplatonic (...)

    A Strange Mixture of Guevara and Togliatti.Daniel Gaido & Constanza Bosch Alessio - 2014 - Historical Materialism 22 (3-4):217-250.
This article analyses the intellectual and political trajectory of the Pasado y Presente group in Argentina, focusing on its main representative, José María Aricó (1931–91). Although usually described as ‘the Argentine Gramscians’, the ‘Gramscianism’ of the Pasado y Presente group was actually little more than a theoretical cover for its erratic political behaviour, which led them from Stalinism to Guevarism, from Guevarism to Maoism, from Maoism to Montoneros’s branch of Peronism, and from Peronism to Alfonsín’s Radicalism. Politically, their weakest point (...)

Geysers and ‘girls’: Gender, power and colonialism in Icelandic tourist imagery.Anna Lisa Jóhannsdóttir & Dominic Alessio - 2011 - European Journal of Women's Studies 18 (1):35-50.
This article examines shifts in the image of Iceland created for international tourism. It argues that at the beginning of the 21st century the more traditional spotlight on the country’s natural attractions was altered, giving an additional, new focus on the nation’s beautiful, and apparently sexually promiscuous, women. Such a development deserves further comment for a variety of reasons. First, an examination of the importance of women to Iceland’s national marketing, especially their depiction visually, underlines the need to reconsider the (...)
