Regional media have numerous functions towards the local community. It is owing to them that the inhabitants of a given area acquire knowledge about current events from all areas of life in the regional dimension. Sport is a special sphere – information about competitions at the regional level appears only in local media. The article analyses the contents of two Lodz-based media – namely printed press and television – in terms of the presence of information about local sports competitions.

The concepts of saga and rhetorical vision constitute an element of the method of rhetorical criticism of fantasy theme analysis, introduced by Ernest Bormann. A saga is a continuously told and re-told story of the accomplishments of an individual, a group, or an institution, explaining its place in the world, the purpose of its existence, and its modus operandi. The paper is an attempt at presenting the saga built around Bogoria, i.e. the local free monthly from Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Poland, which (...) has been published since 1992 by the local Cultural Centre. The material for analysis comes from various jubilee and anniversary editions, which contain mainly articles and manifestos where the editors try to explain their perception of what a local newspaper should be and what role it should play in a local community. The paper discusses the transformation of the Bogoria’s saga from the righteous-social model to the social one. (shrink)

The local press performs significant functions, not only informing the inhabitants of a given city about matters close to them, but also implementing the ideas of regionalism by promoting a “small homeland”, integrating a given community, and reflecting the life of people living in a specific territory. The aim of the article is to present one of the local periodicals – namely Wiadomości – 43 bis –and to attempt to answer the following research questions: how did the analysed periodical change (...) in 1989–2014? What was its strength and what was its weakness? Did it fulfill the functions assigned to this type of press, matching the definition of local magazines? What elements made it remain in the demanding press market, in which the rules seem to be dictated not only by the recipients themselves, but also by strong and well-established media concerns, which also invest in the regional press market? The paper can potentially contribute to further research on the press in the Łódź region. (shrink)

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest prześledzenie narodzin, rozwoju i upadku prasy parafialnej w Polsce na przykładzie archidiecezji szczecińsko-kamieńskiej. Ze względu na ilościowe i jakościowe bogactwo tego segmentu prasy, jego dogłębne zbadanie wymaga dalszych skrupulatnych badań, gdyż od przełomu lat 80. i 90. ubiegłego wieku niezliczone wydawnictwa powstawały, znikały, odradzały się z innym tytułem i zespołem redakcyjnym, po czym znów znikały. W artykule prześledzono tło historyczne województwa zachodniopomorskiego, które po II wojnie światowej zostało przyłączone do komunistycznej Polski. W efekcie wielu Polaków (głównie (...) katolików) z terenów utraconych na rzecz Związku Sowieckiego znalazło się w miejscu, gdzie Kościół katolicki praktycznie nie funkcjonował. Trudno byłoby zrozumieć szczególną rolę prasy parafialnej na Pomorzu Zachodnim bez znajomości szerszego kontekstu powstawania i spontanicznego rozwoju gazet parafialnych w skali kraju. Kwestie te zostały wyeksponowane w części opisującej działalność Ogólnopolskiego Stowarzyszenia Prasy Parafialnej. W artykule poruszono także kwestie związane z typologią i systematyzacją pojęcia „prasa parafialna”. Ze względu na niedostatek, a często brak źródeł pisanych autor przeprowadził serię wywiadów z osobami zaangażowanymi w tworzenie czasopism parafialnych, które przeżywały swój rozkwit w latach 90.
