Citrate transport and metabolism in mammalian cells.Maria E. Mycielska, Ameet Patel, Nahit Rizaner, Maciej P. Mazurek, Hector Keun, Anup Patel, Vadivel Ganapathy & Mustafa B. A. Djamgoz - 2009 - Bioessays 31 (1):10-20.
Citrate, an organic trivalent anion, is a major substrate for generation of energy in most cells. It is produced in mitochondria and used either in the Krebs' cycle or released into cytoplasm through a specific mitochondrial carriers. Citrate can also be taken up from blood through different plasma membrane transporters. In the cytoplasm, citrate can be used ultimately for fatty acid synthesis, which is increased in cancer cells. Here, we review the ways in which citrate can be transported and discuss (...)

Implementation of Improved Ship-Iceberg Classifier Using Deep Learning.Vadivel Sangili & Ankita Rane - 2019 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 29 (1):1514-1522.
The application of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for ship and iceberg monitoring is important to carry out marine activities safely. The task of differentiating the two target classes, i.e. ship and iceberg, presents a challenge for operational scenarios. The dataset comprising SAR images of ship and iceberg poses a major challenge, as we are provided with a small number of labeled samples in the training set compared to a large number of unlabeled test samples. This paper proposes a semisupervised learning (...)

RETRACTED: Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12: Psychometric Properties of This Construct Among Iranian Undergraduate Students.Balachandran Vadivel, Zahra Azadfar, Mansor Abu Talib, Dhameer A. Mutlak, Wanich Suksatan, Abbas Abd Ali Abbood, Mohammed Q. Sultan, Kelly A. Allen, Indrajit Patra, Ali Thaeer Hammid, Abbas Abdollahi & Supat Chupradit - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13:894316.
BackgroundUncertainty intolerance (IU), the tendency to think or react negatively toward uncertain events may have implication on individuals’ mental health and psychological wellbeing. The Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12 (IU-12) is commonly used across the globe to measure IU, however, its’ psychometric properties are yet to be evaluated in Iran with a Persian-speaking population. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to translate and validate the IU-12 among Iranian undergraduate students.Materials and MethodsThe multi-stage cluster random sampling was employed to recruit 410 (...)

Secure Fingerprint Authentication Using Deep Learning and Minutiae Verification.S. Vadivel, Saad Bayezeed & V. M. Praseetha - 2019 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 29 (1):1379-1387.
Nowadays, there has been an increase in security concerns regarding fingerprint biometrics. This problem arises due to technological advancements in bypassing and hacking methodologies. This has sparked the need for a more secure platform for identification. In this paper, we have used a deep Convolutional Neural Network as a pre-verification filter to filter out bad or malicious fingerprints. As deep learning allows the system to be more accurate at detecting and reducing false identification by training itself again and again with (...)

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) first appeared in China in late 2019 and since then it has become a pandemic. Various countries, in accordance with their cultures, have adopted different approaches to deal with the spread of this disease. The dimensions of this disease and its global spread are such that it will certainly have enormous effects on various aspects of human life for many years. One of these issues is examining the approach of religious countries in dealing with this crisis. (...)

More Than Movement: Exploring Motor Simulation, Creativity, and Function in Co-developed Dance for Parkinson’s.Judith Bek, Aline I. Arakaki, Fleur Derbyshire-Fox, Gayathri Ganapathy, Matthew Sullivan & Ellen Poliakoff - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13:731264.
Dance is an enjoyable, non-therapy-focused activity that may provide a range of benefits for people with Parkinson’s. The internal simulation of movement through observation, imitation, and imagery, is intrinsic to dance and may contribute to functional improvements for people with Parkinson’s. This study explored the feasibility and potential benefits of a dance program designed by a collaborative team of dance artists, researchers, physiotherapists, and people living with Parkinson’s. The program incorporated motor simulation through observation, imitation and imagery of movement, supported (...)

Birth rights and rituals in rural south India: care seeking in the intrapartum period.Zoë Matthews, Jayashree Ramakrishna, Shanti Mahendra, Asha Kilaru & Saraswathy Ganapathy - 2005 - Journal of Biosocial Science 37 (4):385-411.
Maternal morbidity and mortality are high in the Indian context, but the majority of maternal deaths could be avoided by prompt and effective access to intrapartum care (WHO, 1999). Understanding the care seeking responses to intrapartum morbidities is crucial if maternal health is to be effectively improved, and maternal mortality reduced. This paper presents the results of a prospective study of 388 women followed through delivery and traditional postpartum in rural Karnataka in southern India. In this setting, few women use (...)

    A Novel Discrete-Time Leslie–Gower Model with the Impact of Allee Effect in Predator Population.S. Vinoth, R. Sivasamy, K. Sathiyanathan, B. Unyong, R. Vadivel & Nallappan Gunasekaran - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-21.
The discrete-time system has more complex and chaotic dynamical behaviors as compared to the continuous-time system. This paper extends a discrete Leslie–Gower predator-prey system with the Allee effect in the predator’s population, whose dynamics are analyzed and explored. We have determined the equilibrium points and studied their local stability properties. We find that the system undergoes flip bifurcation and Neimark–Sacker bifurcation around the interior equilibrium point by choosing the Allee parameter as a bifurcation parameter. We discuss the stability and direction (...)
