Beyond the Educational Context: Relevance of Intrinsic Reading Motivation During COVID-19 Confinement in Spain.Raquel De Sixte, Inmaculada Fajardo, Amelia Mañá, Álvaro Jáñez, Marta Ramos, María García-Serrano, Federica Natalizi, Barbara Arfé & Javier Rosales - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
What role could have intrinsic motivation toward reading in an extraordinary situation like the recent confinement? This research examines the relationship between intrinsic reading motivation and reading habits in an adult population considering types of reading, gender, and distress generated by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Participants were 3,849 adults from Spain who were surveyed about their reading practices: before, during the first weeks, and after several weeks of confinement. Linear mixed effects models were used to analyze data. Results showed (...)

  5. Sujetting Apocrypha from HOME.Graydon Wetzler - 2019 - Continent 1 (8):155 - 166.
The promise of defense, and offices like the Defence Sciences Office (DSO) of the Defense Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has underwritten and underwrites many technological narratives, even the technology of narrative itself. Graydon Wetzler attends a series of DARPA meetings where neuroscientists, computer and social scientists develop a "science of story", as a tool in the defense of U.S. international security.

    A kerosene summer dress.Graydon Wetzler - 2018 - Technoetic Arts 16 (3):247-258.
This article combines situational analysis with situationists dérive to weave a seemingly disjointed series of historical tableaux, materialities, marginalia, combustion and corporeal techniques in embryology, chemistry, geology, synthetics and magic. The double locus structuring this constellation is Hilde Proescholdt (1898–1924), a gifted German experimental biologist; and Abraham Gesner (1797–1864), Canadian physician, geologist and inventor of kerosene. Following Adele Clark’s SA research programme, I attend to situational maps recurring the experimental repertoires Gesner and Proescholdt with the material, social and artefactual historicities (...)

Visualizing and quantifying cell phenotype using soft X‐ray tomography.Gerry McDermott, Douglas M. Fox, Lindsay Epperly, Modi Wetzler, Annelise E. Barron, Mark A. Le Gros & Carolyn A. Larabell - 2012 - Bioessays 34 (4):320-327.
Soft X‐ray tomography (SXT) is an imaging technique capable of characterizing and quantifying the structural phenotype of cells. In particular, SXT is used to visualize the internal architecture of fully hydrated, intact eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells at high spatial resolution (50 nm or better). Image contrast in SXT is derived from the biochemical composition of the cell, and obtained without the need to use potentially damaging contrast‐enhancing agents, such as heavy metals. The cells are simply cryopreserved prior to imaging, and (...)

    Incalculable Instrumental Value in the Endangered Species Act.Ian A. Smith - 2022 - Philosophia 50 (5):2249-2262.
The Endangered Species Act of 1973 is one of America’s most powerful statutes, not only in American domestic environmental law, but in American domestic law in general. The first part of the ESA gives us the ‘Findings, Purposes, and Policy’ that underlie the Act. In this prefratory language, it is explicit that the ESA is referring to instrumental aesthetic, ecological, educational, historical, recreational, and scientific values. But J. Baird Callicott and Andrew Wetzler argued that the ESA is also implicitly (...)
