Social capital dimensions in household food security interventions: implications for rural Uganda.Haroon Sseguya, Robert E. Mazur & Cornelia B. Flora - 2018 - Agriculture and Human Values 35 (1):117-129.
We demonstrate that social capital is associated with positive food security outcomes, using survey data from 378 households in rural Uganda. We measured food security with the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale. For social capital, we measured cognitive and structural indicators, with principal components analysis used to identify key factors of the concept for logistic regression analysis. Households with bridging and linking social capital, characterized by membership in groups, access to information from external institutions, and observance of norms in groups, (...)

Analysis of Human Gait Using Hybrid EEG-fNIRS-Based BCI System: A Review.Haroon Khan, Noman Naseer, Anis Yazidi, Per Kristian Eide, Hafiz Wajahat Hassan & Peyman Mirtaheri - 2021 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 14.
Human gait is a complex activity that requires high coordination between the central nervous system, the limb, and the musculoskeletal system. More research is needed to understand the latter coordination's complexity in designing better and more effective rehabilitation strategies for gait disorders. Electroencephalogram and functional near-infrared spectroscopy are among the most used technologies for monitoring brain activities due to portability, non-invasiveness, and relatively low cost compared to others. Fusing EEG and fNIRS is a well-known and established methodology proven to enhance (...)

Impact of Nanofluid Flow over an Elongated Moving Surface with a Uniform Hydromagnetic Field and Nonlinear Heat Reservoir.Haroon U. R. Rasheed, Saeed Islam, Zeeshan Khan, Sayer O. Alharbi, Hammad Alotaibi & Ilyas Khan - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-9.
The increasing global demand for energy necessitates devoted attention to the formulation and exploration of mechanisms of thermal heat exchangers to explore and save heat energy. Thus, innovative thermal transport fluids require to boost thermal conductivity and heat flow features to upsurge convection heat rate, and nanofluids have been effectively employed as standard heat transfer fluids. With such intention, herein, we formulated and developed the constitutive flow laws by utilizing the Rossland diffusion approximation and Stephen’s law along with the MHD (...)

Karl Marx’s Philosophy and Its Relevance Today.Haroon Rashid - forthcoming - Philosophy and Progress:15-42.
How do we see the world? What is the way of looking at the world? In other words, how do we explain the problems of our life and the world we live in? This is what philosophy does, i.e., philosophy is a way of explaining life and the world. More precisely, philosophy is an outlook of the fundamental problems of life and the world. A philosopher starts his thinking with the exercise of rationality. He makes a rational investigation of the (...)

Making Sense of Marxian Concept of Justice.Haroon Rashid - 2002 - Indian Philosophical Quarterly 29 (4):445-469.
The purpose of this paper is to make sense of Marx's own view about justice in the light of the controversy between classical Marxism and normative Marxism. Normative Marxism claims that Marx's condemnation of capitalist exploitation and his conception of communism entertain a principle of justice, while classical Marxism does not allow any such principle in Marx's thought. However, I argue that although Marx uses normative terms, he does not provide any specific theory of justice. Marx's condemnation of capitalism is (...)

Impact of servant leadership on employee life satisfaction through Islamic work ethics in the Islamic banking industry.Hina Nazir, Muhammad Haroon Shoukat, Islam Elgammal & Safdar Hussain - 2022 - Asian Journal of Business Ethics 11 (1):137-157.
The current study proposes a novel conceptual model in which Islamic work ethics has a mediating role in the relationship between servant leadership and employees’ life satisfaction within Pakistan’s banking sector. The model draws on the theory of leader-member exchange. Data from a sample of 240 were evaluated using structural equation modeling using SmartPLS 3.2.7 software. The findings indicate that servant leadership significantly impacts employees’ life satisfaction. Furthermore, Islamic work ethics mediated this effect. This study introduces ground-breaking bank inputs by (...)

Embedding technopolis: turning modernity into a home.Haroon Sheikh - 2017 - Amsterdam: Boom.
The global village is under pressure. In order to protect local communities and their traditions, walls, real and symbolical, are erected across the globe. In Turkey, Russia and China cosmopolitanism seems to be giving way to rediscoveries of tradition like Ottomanism, Eurasianism and Confucianism.0In 'Embedding Technopolis', Sheikh rethinks modernity and tradition and gives insight into their complex relationship. From state-led capitalism in East Asia to democracy in India and German industry, Sheikh shows how ancient traditions surprisingly persist in our contemporary (...)

    Acquisition of L2 English spatial deixes by Arabic-speaking children.Hissah Nasser Alothman & Haroon N. Alsager - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Deictic words are considered the earliest words which children acquire at the stage of two-word-utterance. However, mastering them like adults may take more time. This paper investigates how L2 children comprehend and produce English spatial deixis ‘here’, ‘there’, ‘this’, and ‘that’ by observing and documenting their responses and reactions in hide-and-seek game. It also aims to find out the children’s obstacles in acquiring these words, such as proximity bias and egocentrism. The subjects are Arabic children of ages four, five, and (...)

Hegemonic Change and the Role of the Intellectual in Atlas Shrugged A Gramscian Study.Syed Haroon Ahmed Shah - 2021 - Journal of Ayn Rand Studies 21 (1):16-30.
This article focuses on the hegemonic shift portrayed by Ayn Rand in Atlas Shrugged. The book focuses on the conflict between producers and those who exploit them. The protagonist, John Galt, leads a strike of the producers, which undermines the society's looters and puts an end to the hegemonic control of the left. Neoliberalism—used here as a synonym for contemporary libertarian thought—rescues the world from the havoc wreaked by statism. This shift is studied in the light of Antonio Gramsci's theory (...)
