This article aims to clarify the relationship between the Truth and Justification in the philosophies of Jürgen Habermas and Richard Rorty from their discussions. The thesis that I advocate is that the relationship between Truth and Justification depends on the Ontological and Epistemological assumptions that each maintains and is not a matter of conditions of speech as stated by Habermas.

Este artículo analiza la discusión entre Taylor y Rorty sobre los resultados de la superación de la epistemología. Primeramente, este artículo resume la crítica de Taylor a Rorty. En segundo lugar, considera la respuesta rortyana a Taylor y sus propios argumentos contra el realismo de Taylor. Los desacuerdos principales entre Rorty y Taylor son los siguientes: 1) Rorty dice que el pragmatismo supera la epistemología, mientras que Taylor dice que el realismo no-comprometido es el que supera la tradición epistemológica (...) popular; 2) ellos están en desacuerdo sobre cómo entender cierto vocabulario: Taylor afirma que siempre es posible conocer qué vocabulario describe mejor al mundo, pero Rorty parece sostener que los vocabularios son inconmensurables; 3) Taylor piensa a la verdad como una relación de correspondencia con el mundo; Rorty, sin embargo, rechaza esta concepción. En tercer lugar, se hace aquí una evaluación de los argumentos ofrecidos por cada lado, especialmente la sección que argumenta contra la concepción rortyana de los juegos del lenguaje y sus consecuencias no-realistas. El artículo examina la concepción neopragmatista desde la cual Rorty defiende una concepción antirrcalista del conocimiento. A fin de evaluar si es correcta la radicalización del «signo lingüístico) emprendida por el autor estadounidense, se compara la problemática contextualista con la duda epistemológica del escéptico moderno y se analiza el problema -tradicionalrnente ligado a las concepciones de la verdad como coherencia que subyacen a los planteamientos contextualistas-> de cómo distinguir la verdad de la aceptabilidad racional. Ante esta cuestión las (...) opiniones se dividen: mientras que Rorty asimila verdad y justificación al precio de sacrificar la intuición realista cotidiana, otros autores intentan dar cuenta de esta intuición desde dentro del paradigma lingüístico, ya sea mediante una deflación de la problemática de la verdad o mediante una idealización del proceso de justificación mismo. El autor reacciona frente a ambas posiciones: por un lado, contra un deflacionismo que se apoya en el concepto semántico de verdad, hace valer aquí una posición pragmática; por otro, desde esta misma óptica, crítica un tipo de epistemologizacíón del concepto de verdad que él mismo había defendido hasta el momento. Por esta vía se articula unaalternativa frente a la liquidación de las pretensiones de verdad incondicionales que ha llevado a Rorty a una naturalización de la razón lingüística muy problemática. Em primeiro lugar, o neopragmatismo de Richard Rorty, que evita qualquer tipo de fundamentação última do conhecimento e considera a filosofia um saber crítico e construtivo que está a serviço das pequenas causas do dia a dia. E, em segundo lugar, a teoria da ação comunicativa, de Jürgen (...) Habermas, a qual busca um sentido incondicionado para os mundos vividos e, com isso, apresenta uma filosofia com pretensões de universalidade. Knowledge and true relations represent the principal task of Theory of Knowledge. This paper argues about various solutions to the justification of knowledge, given by William James, Richard Rorty and Jürgen Habermas. For classic Pragmatism Knowledge and Truth converge with the idea of a guideline, direction and orientation with an effective value for men. The Newpragmatism represented by Rorty tries out the way of the widest possible widening of justification contexts, taking as last referent the features of a (...) western liberal culture. Nietzsche’s views of truth and knowledge are often trought to be incompatible with political liberalism. But these views are pretty much the same as those of William James and John Dewey, who were right to see no such incompatibility. The pragmatists, like Nietzsche, wanted to drop the congnitivism which has dominated western intellectual life since Plato, but, unlike Nietzsche, they wished to do so in the interests of an egalitarian society rather than in the interests of a defiant and lonely (...) individualism. The article seeks to trace the image Plato has of Heraclitus and connect it with the argumentative structure of the Cratylus in order to understand the textual needs that give rise to the doctrine of perpetual flux, that is, the discussion regarding the correctness (ὀρθότης) of names. The inclusion of Heraclitus's testimony makes it possible to trace the alleged consolidation of the thesis regarding primary and secondary names as the axis of separation between two levels of reality (one stable, the other, changing) and the theory of Ideas -that is, as the basis of Plato's epistemology as set forth in the late dialogues-. O objeto deste artigo é a investigação das influências do neopragmatismo na educação, tomando como base o pensamento de Richard Rorty. Identifica algumas convergências entre a cultura pós-moderna e o neopragmatismo, especialmente quanto ao fim das metanarrativas, no sentido de reconhecer as alterações na educação daí decorrentes. Tem como foco de investigação principal a questão da verdade, que se relaciona diretamente com as atividades educacionais, como as discussões em torno de currículos escolares. Apresenta algumas das consequências pedagógicas e políticas (...) decorrentes da presença do ideário neopragmatista no campo educacional, tais como o esvaziamento do conceito de verdade que transfere para a educação o relativismo exacerbado. Aponta a importância do resgate do valor da verdade, superando o relativismo e a postura de permanente desconfiança característica da pós-modernidade. Demonstra que o pragmatismo, em sua versão contemporânea, corrobora uma perspectiva que se alia às novas narrativas neoliberais, também presentes na educação. Against the background of disputes about modernity and post-modernity in philosophy, this paper probes the differences among Gadamer, Habermas, and Rorty. Focusing on the themes of praxis, phronesis, and practical discourse, it is argued that what initially appear to be hard and fast cleavages and irreconcilable differences turn out to be differences of emphasis. The common ground that emerges is adumbrated as "non-foundational pragmatic humanism". Richard Rorty aponta a solidariedade como uma troca de relações práticas intersubjetivas, sem apegos a tradição metafísica e a epistemologia. O autor nos propõe fugir de qualquer tentativa de fundamentalismos e buscas por verdades absolutas que venham guiar a noção de mundo dos indivíduos e fundamentar suas (...) ações. Tal comportamento limitaria as relações práticas que ocorrem dentro de uma comunidade, atrapalhando o processo de resoluções dos problemas que estão nas práticas sociais, mas que são solapados por buscas de justificativas universalistas. Por outro lado, Axel Honneth defende a solidariedade como uma terceira esfera de reconhecimento, seria a esfera destinada a estima social, comportamento que cada sujeito deveria manifestar a outro indivíduo para haja relações intersubjetivas entre eles. We affirm, with Rorty, that truth is not a property, and, against Rorty, that this position does not imply eliminating the concept of truth from theoretical discourse. The practices of speakers are analyzed using a pragmatist strategy, in order to show that one does not acquire the same commitments when attributing truth or attributing justification. The article discusses the sense in which the philosophical distinction between truth and justification is socially useful and, finally, shows that said distinction does not entail a mysterious metaphysics. O presente artigo propõe analisar as concepções de Andrew Feenberg e de Richard Rorty em suas críticas antiessencialistas. Feenberg tem seu foco numa crítica às posições substantivistas e deterministas das tecnologias. Para ele, as tecnologias não são pré-determinadas por alguma natureza ou essência própria. Sua crítica coloca o modelo atual de produção e desenvolvimento tecnológico enquanto limitado pelos valores exaltados por grupos dominantes e que excluem a multiplicidade de valores em jogo numa sociedade. Já Rorty parte do pragmatismo (...) para realizar uma crítica às teorias de correspondência da verdade e das tentativas de fundamentar representações precisas da realidade. Ele aponta a imaginação, na concepção romântica, como a capacidade humana responsável pelo progresso social e como círculo dentro do qual a razão pode trabalhar. Essa noção de imaginação é, desse modo, o ponto de partida para novos modos do fazer e do desenvolvimento de potencialidades humanas. Este artigo buscou identificar um caminho de aproximação entre esses dois autores. Eles concordam quanto à necessidade de ampliação das possibilidades do fazer humano e de que concepções essencialistas limitam nossas potencialidades. A noção de imaginação, como apontada por Rorty, vai ao encontro da defesa de Feenberg pela ampliação do modelo de racionalidade que encaminha o desenvolvimento tecnológico, permitindo a democratização e ampliação das possibilidades humanas.
