Abstract

Ce qu'il est convenu d'appeler le « modèle » ou le « style » de Limbourg , désignant « un gouvernement transparent impliquant des laïcs et des clercs au niveau du diocèse et de la paroisse », rend-il compte d'une réception positive et unanime du Concile Vatican II en Allemagne comme ailleurs ? Sans négliger la forte organisation antérieure au Concile du Catholicisme allemand, ce qui pouvait constituer un obstacle à sa réception, celle-ci aboutit d'abord à un transfert des forces de l'Action catholique dans de nouvelles structures ecclésiales dont en particulier l'organisation syno­dale du diocèse. Mais plus profondément, le débat sur la démocratisation de l'Eglise se heurta à des conceptions traditionnelles, et pas nécessairement traditionalistes, en écho des écarts du Concile de Constance . Cepen­dant, le fonctionnement du Conseil synodal diocésain révéla très vite les difficultés liées aux aspects les plus discutables de l'ecclésiologie catholique, notamment en matière d'élection, ce que confirma la « conflit Bafile » en 1973, ce à quoi apportèrent des correctifs les nouveaux statuts synodaux de 1997. L'évolution historique de l'organisation synodale du diocèse de Lim­bourg montre une façon de concevoir la réception d'une donnée normative, en l'occurrence un concile, quitte à manifester une tension entre le souci d'inscrire le changement provoqué par Vatican Il et la doctrine irrévocable de la hiérarchie ministérielle dans la vie de l'Eglise.Does that which is agreed to be called the "model" or the "style" of Limburg , designating "a transparent government implicating the laity and clerics on the diocesan parish level, " take into account a positive and unanimous reception of the Second Vatican Council in Germany as elsewhere ? Without neglecting the strong organization prior to the Council of German Catholicism, which could have been an obstacle to its reception, this latter resulted first in a transfer of the forces of Catholic Action in new church structures, and in particular the synodal organization of the diocese. But more profoundly, the debate about the democratization of the Church clashes with traditional ideas, and not necessarily traditionalist, in echo of the divergences of the Council of Constance . The functioning of the diocesan synodal council, nevertheless, revealed very quickly the difficulties tied to the most debatable aspects of Catholic ecclesiology. This is especially true as regards elections, which confirms the "conflict Bafile" in 1973, for which corrections were brought about by new synodal statutes of 1997. The historical evolution of the synodal organization of the Limburg diocese shows a way of understanding the reception of a normative given, in this case a council, at the risk of manifesting a tension between the concern to inscribe the change provoked by Vatican II and the irrevocable doctrine of the ministerial hierarchy in the life of the Church
