    Šafā‘a. La cohesión de una sociedad.Emilio Tornero - 2019 - Al-Qantara 40 (2):431.

This study analyses Spinoza’s Tractatus theologico politicus from the point of view of the confrontation between revealed Scripture and philosophy, and links it with the history of this confrontation in Maimonides and the Arab philosophers, highlighting similarities and differences. The three key points of the analysis are the following: Salvation through philosophy; Salvation through religion; and the guarantor of Salvation: political power.

Ibn Tufayl y Spinoza. Sobre el conocimiento del Tercer Género / Ibn Tufayl and Spinoza: On the Third Kind of Knowledge.Emilio Tornero - 2013 - Revista Española de Filosofía Medieval 20:23.
The nature of Spinoza’s third kind of knowledge still remains a matter of discussion as it has not been clarified yet. This paper offers a comparison between this knowledge in Spinoza and the superior knowledge to the rational discursive knowledge that Ibn Ṭufayl puts forward in his work translated in 1671 with the title Philosophus autodidactus, a work that Spinoza knew and recommended to his friends. Since this type of knowledge in Ibn Ṭufayl is a kind of rationalization of the (...)

    La filosofía andalusí frente al sufismo.Emilio Tornero - 1996 - Al-Qantara 17 (1):3-3.
The confrontation between Philosophy and Sufism —as systematized by Algazel— as a means for acquiring human knowledge and happiness, provoked differing reactions among Andalusian philosophers: Avempace totally denied the claims of the sufis and declared Philosophy as the only adequate study for achieving complete satisfaction in all human potentialities. Ibn Ṭufayl undertook the Sufi path within his philosophy, combining the ecstasy searched for the sufis with Plotinian ecstasy. Averroes recognized the validity of the Sufi path, but only for the few. (...)

An action research project was carried out, using theater workshops and basic digital fabrication technology workshops to improve social skills—such as the expression of emotions, communication, self-control, and teamwork—in a group of 10 young individuals with autism spectrum disorder. This article focuses on the digital fabrication workshops, where participants worked on the fundamentals of electronics and programming, as well as 3D design and printing, to make props that were later used on stage in the theatrical performances in which they participated. Altruistic Behavior among Twins.Encarnación Tornero, Juan F. Sánchez-Romera, José J. Morosoli, Alexandra Vázquez, Ángel Gómez & Juan R. Ordoñana - 2018 - Human Nature 29 (1):1-12.
According to kin selection theory, indirect reproductive advantages may induce individuals to care for others with whom they share genes by common descent, and the amount of care, including self-sacrifice, will increase with the proportion of genes shared. Twins represent a natural situation in which this hypothesis can be tested. Twin pairs experience the same early environment because they were born and raised at the same time and in the same family but their genetic relatedness differs depending on zygosity. We (...)

Performance, Legal Pronouncements, and Political Communication in the First Roman Civil War.Emilio Zucchetti - 2022 - Hermes 150 (1):54.
The act of iudicare hostes (‘declare public enemy’) was a formal pronouncement of the Roman Senate, voted for the first time in 88 BCE following a proposal by L. Cornelius Sulla after his first march on Rome. Legal historians have generally interpreted it as an emergency measure intended to preserve legality in a situation of civil strife and viewed it as a consistently defined institutional framework throughout the final decades of the Republic. Through an analysis of Sulla’s performative political communication, (...)

Gottesglaube as Glaubenstrotz. The concessive structure of the Christian religious attitude.Emilio Vicuña & Roberto Rubio - 2024 - Continental Philosophy Review 57 (1):63-87.
The topic of the present reflection is Christian religious belief. Specifically, we will use Husserlian tools in order to examine the positional nature of this particular type of belief. We will be less interested in the question concerning the success conditions of this experience and more in its noetic structure. According to our proposal, to believe by faith supposes (although it is not exhausted by) accepting the existence of mundane evidence speaking against this fundamental belief. The believer acknowledges the existence (...)

The Irrationality of Merciful Legal Judgement: Exclusionary Reasoning and the Question of the Particular.Emilios A. Christodoulidis - 1999 - Law and Philosophy 18 (3):215-241.
In this paper I attempt to bring together (at least) two very different debates: one on justice, mercy and particularity, the other on the play of exclusionary reasons. My aim is to show how the discussion of the uneasy co-existence of justice and mercy pivots on the question of particularity. And, secondly, that the debate on exclusionary reasons can show us why law may fail to do justice in this context.

The dissertation under comment is a contribution to the area of Set Theory concerned with the interactions between the method of Forcing and the so-called Large Cardinal axioms. The dissertation is divided into two thematic blocks. In Block I we analyze the large-cardinal hierarchy between the first supercompact cardinal and Vopěnka’s Principle. In turn, Block II is devoted to the investigation of some problems arising from Singular Cardinal Combinatorics. We commence Part I by investigating the Identity Crisis phenomenon in the region comprised (...)

A Non-relativistic Approach to Relativistic Quantum Mechanics: The Case of the Harmonic Oscillator.Luis A. Poveda, Luis Grave de Peralta, Jacob Pittman & Bill Poirier - 2022 - Foundations of Physics 52 (1):1-20.
A recently proposed approach to relativistic quantum mechanics is applied to the problem of a particle in a quadratic potential. The methods, both exact and approximate, allow one to obtain eigenstate energy levels and wavefunctions, using conventional numerical eigensolvers applied to Schrödinger-like equations. Results are obtained over a nine-order-of-magnitude variation of system parameters, ranging from the non-relativistic to the ultrarelativistic limits. Various trends are analyzed and discussed—some of which might have been easily predicted, others which may be a bit more (...)

The relationships between the actors are studied and prioritized according to their support network position. An individual index for each actor based on their influence on solving problems is provided. The social network analysis was used to know the influence of the actors in the sector through the centrality measures. Furthermore, a (...)

What are the Early Memoranda?1 When were they written? What are their sources? What is their purpose and their relation to Hume's works? These questions, usually addressed separately, are in fact tightly interwoven: they require an articulated response that embraces them all. Our response could be summarised as follows: far from being current reading notes, or even less the exhaustive diary of Hume's intellectual experience, the Early Memoranda are most likely second-tier texts, or—as James Harris recently conjectured—"notes taken from notes."2 (...)
