    Binocular rivalry and visual awareness.Timothy J. Andrews - 2001 - Trends in Cognitive Sciences 5 (10):407-409.
Physiological studies of binocular rivalry have provided important clues to the relationship between neural activity in the brain and visual awareness. However, uncertainty about these insights has been raised by a recent study showing that the events underlying binocular rivalry occur earlier in the visual pathway than was previously thought.

Between Athens and Paris: The life and intellectual contribution of Cornelius Castoriadis.Timothy Andrews - 2020 - Thesis Eleven 161 (1):14-22.
This paper presents a biographical outline of the life of Cornelius Castoriadis and the intersections between philosophy, politics and experience that shaped his vibrant and prolific intellectual contribution. Castoriadis grew up in Athens, at a time when Greece’s internal differences came to the fore as a result of the movements of wider European history. This was a symbolic beginning that set up his migration to Paris and shaped the trajectory of this thought. In Castoriadis, we discover a fiercely independent character (...)

Beyond market behavior: Evolved cognition and folk political economic beliefs.Talbot M. Andrews & Andrew W. Delton - 2018 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 41.
Boyer & Petersen lay out a compelling theory for folk-economic beliefs, focusing on beliefs about markets. However, societies also allocate resources through mechanisms involving power and group decision-making, through the political economy. We encourage future work to keep folkpoliticaleconomic beliefs in mind, and sketch an example involving pollution and climate change mitigation policy.

Between the acts: At home in uncertain times.Timothy Andrews - 2023 - Thesis Eleven 177 (1):15-19.
Written during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, this short essay reflects on a changing world in the midst of major upheaval. Bringing together the philosophical thought of the late Agnes Heller with the historical meditations expressed in Virginia Woolf’s final novel Between the Acts, the essay attends to the ways that historical transition plays out in the everyday. Writing on the cusp of the Second World War, Woolf is acutely aware of an atmosphere of historical change, and she (...)

The political complexity of attack and defense.Talbot M. Andrews, Leonie Huddy, Reuben Kline, H. Hannah Nam & Katherine Sawyer - 2019 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 42.
De Dreu and Gross's distinction between attack and defense is complicated in real-world conflicts because competing leaders construe their position as one of defense, and power imbalances place status quo challengers in a defensive position. Their account of defense as vigilant avoidance is incomplete because it avoids a reference to anger which transforms anxious avoidance into collective and unified action.
