We present five studies investigating the effects of approach and avoidance behaviours when individuals do not enact them but, instead, learn that others have performed them. In Experiment 1, when participants read that a fictitious character (model) had approached a previously unknown product, they ascribed to this model a liking for the object. In contrast, they ascribed to the model a disliking for the avoided product. In Experiment 2, this result emerged, with a smaller effect size, even when it was (...) clear that the behaviours followed specific instructions from a third party. The model had been a mere executor instead of behaving autonomously. Finally, in Experiments 3, 4, and 5, we showed, with direct and indirect measures of attitudes, that reading that the model had approached vs avoided products was sufficient to create preferences in the participant for the approached one, regardless of whether it was explained that the model was a mere executor. This research highlights the largely unexplored effects of vicarious approach/avoidance behaviours. Theoretical and practical implications and possible developments of this line of research are discussed. (shrink)

It is worth underlining that the poem by Koblański discussed in here expressed the reaction to the first partitions of the country and it was received as a voice which rendered accurately feelings, misgivings and hopes the inhabitants of cordoned-off areas. It is proved in the commentary to the text in the mentioned edition, Political poetry of the first partitions and the delegation seym 1772-1777, in which we read, “About 1795 Karpiński refered to Koblański s poem in his work “To (...) A(ntoni) D(zieduszycki) on the occasion of his arrival from Warsaw in Rus, Galicia” and Naruszewicz did it in a poem, “Replay from Dzieduszycki to Karpiński”, Strong connections of the text with Autumn 1773 are not accidental. Thus, the patriotic elegy by Koblański, beside Sokalski beggar's song in emperor's cordon by Karpiński, occured the second significant though less known nowadays reaction to the news about ratification of the partitions treaty by the Seym; the news coming from the areas whose centre was Lwów. The present work aims at developing a scale for the assessment of a construct that we called “physical–digital integration”, which refers to the tendency of some individuals not to perceive a clear differentiation between feelings and perceptions that pertain to the physical or digital environment. The construct is articulated in four facets: identity, social relationships, time–space perception, and sensory perception. Data from a sample of 369 participants were collected to evaluate factor structure (unidimensional model, bifactor model, correlated four-factor model), internal (...) consistency (Cronbach’s _α_, McDonald’s _ω_), and correlations of the physical–digital integration scale with other measures. Results showed that the scale is valid and internally consistent, and that both the total score and the scores at its four subscales are worthy of consideration. The physical–digital integration scores were found to be differently associated with digital and non-digital behaviors, individuals’ ability to read emotions in the facial expressions of others, and indicators of psychosocial functioning (anxiety, depression, and satisfaction with social relationships). The paper proposes a new measure whose scores are associated with several variables that may have relevant consequences at both individual and social levels. (shrink)

El artículo tiene por objeto analizar la construcción del conocimiento mapuche según el discurso de kimches. Sostenemos que en la educación familiar existe un proceso de construcción de conocimientos propios como un sistema de saberes y contenidos educativos para la formación de personas. La metodología empleada es la investigación educativa. Los resultados parciales muestran una descripción acerca de la lógica de los conocimientos educativos propios, para contextualizar la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de las ciencias en el medio escolar, desde la (...) educación intercultural en contexto mapuche. The aim of this article is to analyze the construction of Mapuche knowledge based on the kimches speech. We argue that within family education, there exists a process of constructing their own knowledge, as a system of knowledge and educational contents for forming individuals. The research methodology applied corresponds to education research. Preliminary results describe the logic of individual educational knowledge from intercultural education in the Mapuche context, so as to contextualize the teaching and learning of Science in schools. Resumen: Alfonsina Storni es una escritora que se ha labrado un lugar dentro del canon literario argentino, por mucho tiempo bajo una imagen de escritora que anudaba sentimentalismo, fatalidad y poesía “femenina”, aunque más recientemente la crítica literaria de orientación feminista haya desmontado esa imagen. Este trabajo se interesa, no obstante, por los años en que Alfonsina Storni publicaba sus primeros poemarios y comenzaba a pugnar por un lugar en el incipiente campo literario, dominantemente masculino. El objetivo es visualizar, desde (...) una perspectiva de género, las prácticas culturales emergentes, dominantes y residuales que contribuyeron o condicionaron su camino hacia la profesionalización como escritora, en un contexto de cambios por los procesos modernizadores y de avances del movimiento feminista.: Alfonsina Storni is a writer who has forged a position within the Argentinian literary canon, under the image of a writer who revokes sentimentalism, fatality and “feminine” poetry. Recently, the feminist-oriented literary criticism has dismantled this image finding out other areas in her literary production. This work is focused on the years in which Alfonsina Storni published her first collections of poems and started struggling for a certain position in the emerging literary field, which was mainly under male domain. Taking a gender perspective, the aim is to visualize emerging dominant, and residual cultural practices that contributed or determined her path towards becoming a professional writer, in a context of changes due to modernizing processes and the feminist movement advance. O estudo apresenta o resultado da experiência em mediação familiar desenvolvida em um Núcleo de Práticas Judiciárias numa instituição pública de ensino, através de projeto de extensão. O texto possui como proposta trazer a experiência de duas professoras negras da educação básica que possuem como lócus de sua docência a Baixada Fluminense e que através de suas práticas disputam os significados hegemonicamente atribuídos as mulheres negras e brancas. Além de narrar estratégias metodológicas, queremos formar um diálogo com intelectuais que nos ajudem a repensar e refinar nossa prática docente de forma crítica, assim torna-se indispensável à leitura de feministas negras que nos ajudam a nos localizar quanto à (...) organização do mundo a partir do racismo e do machismo estrutural, além de nos fornecer a visão de que a educação, quando problematizadora, pode ser uma prática libertadora. A partir desta idéia torna-se importante o diálogo, também, com Paulo Freire e sua visão da educação enquanto uma ferramenta potente para transformar as pessoas e assim o mundo. As experiências aqui narradas aconteceram em duas escolas públicas, localizadas em São João de Meriti, no primeiro semestre de 2018; em uma turma de educação infantil e a outra de ensino médio. As experiências práticas procuram realizar um exercício crítico do espaço escolar onde seja possível a convivência com a diferença, permitindo que as alunas e alunos possam ter acesso a outras visões de mundo, oportunizando, desta forma, o acesso a outras histórias onde as mulheres negras e brancas sejam protagonistas e sejam reconhecidas, também, como construtores do país em que vivemos. This paper deals with a case of Virgilian ambiguity, namely the famous hemistich at Aen. 4.298 omnia tuta timens. By highlighting a plausible reading with a causal force (‘fearing everything too calm’, ‘because of the excessive calmness’), it seeks to demonstrate that this hemistich is an ambiguous passage. This view is confirmed through the imitation by Valerius Flaccus, who, in alluding to the Virgilian passage (Argonautica 8.408–12), highlights its ambiguity by including both of the most plausible readings.
