In this paper we present a modern version of the classic theory of “ultimate psychological hedonism” . As does the UPH, our two-dimensional model of metatelic orientations also postulates a fundamentally hedonistic motivation for any human action. However, it makes a distinction between “telic” or content-based goals of actions and “metatelic” or emotional reasons for actions. In our view, only the emotional reasons for action, but not the goals of action, conform to the UPH. After outlining our model, we will (...) elucidate the similarities and differences between our model and classic UPH. In this context we will clarify several basic misconceptions regarding classic UPH. In a next step, two major criticisms of the theory of ultimate psychological hedonism will be discussed, that is the statement that the hedonistic principle has no motivating effect at all and the argument that the hedonistic motivation is only one of many motivations of human actions. We believe that both of these arguments can be refuted. Finally, we will discuss the compatibility of our model with evolutionary theory. (shrink)

J. Charbonneaux a étudié en 1928 les différents emplois de deux types de roches, l'ammouda et la sidéropétra, dans l'architecture du palais de Malia. La présente étude, commencée en 1979, montre que d'autres types de roches y ont été utilisés, dont la provenance est plus ou moins proche, et que leur emploi répond le plus souvent à des exigences précises des constructeurs, tant sur le plan architectonique que sur le plan esthétique.

Olivier Pelon et Anne Schmitt Étude en laboratoire des céramiques dites de Vassiliki (Crète orientale) p. 431-442. La céramique minoenne dite de Vassiliki est datée du Minoen Ancien II et se rencontre sur la plupart des sites crétois de cette époque ; très reconnaissable, elle se caractérise par un décor flammé constitué de plaques irrégulières, rouges orangées et noires. Pour la détermination de son lieu de production, on a procédé à l'étude chimique globale par fluorescence X, complétée par une étude (...) pétrographique, de divers échantillons provenant de Malia, de Myrtos-Pyrgos, de Myrtos-Fournou Koryphi et de Vassiliki même. Cette étude conduit à distinguer deux groupes de composition chimique différente. Le premier, bien représenté à Malia et à Vassiliki – ce qui autorise l'hypothèse d'échanges entre les deux sites –, pourrait provenir de Vassiliki. Le second, de facture beaucoup plus grossière et beaucoup plus abondant que le premier à Malia, est, selon toute vraisemblance, de provenance locale ; les caractéristiques de l'argile utilisée le rapprochent en effet de celle des formations métamorphiques du massif du Sélinari, à quelques kilomètres à l'Est du site. Sie beschäftigen sich mit Themen wie Freiheit und Zwang, Ungleichheit und Ungerechtigkeit, Wahlversprechen und Dirty Hands. Das Motto dieses Sammelbandes ist folglich ‚Einheit in Vielfalt‘: Er gibt einen außergewöhnlichen Einblick in den Facettenreichtum der aktuellen Forschungsdiskussionen im Rahmen der Analytischen Politischen Theorie.

Political Theory is a broad field, comprising subjects as varied as conceptual analysis, positive political theory, political philosophy, and the history of normative political thought. The present edited volume includes contributions to all of these fields: Contested concepts such as extremism or freedom are discussed, issues such as expertocracy, dirty hands, global poverty and inequality are tackled from a normative perspective; empirical topics such as the conditions of democratic stability or the relationship between rational action and informational inequalities are illuminated (...) from a theoretical point of view, and “Eastern” critiques of “Western” political ideals are presented.
