Abstract

Discussion of the philosophy of Feuerbach, including such anthologies as Löwith’s and Hanfi’s, tends to focus almost exclusively on The Essence of Christianity and the works immediately surrounding it from Zur Kritik der Hegelschen Philosophie to the Vorläufige Thesen and the Grundsätze of 1842–43. Wartofsky calls his book the first major, full length study of Feuerbach in English, not just because it is so long, but because it seeks to be comprehensive, to broaden the scope of discussion by giving detailed attention to what Feuerbach wrote both before and after the half decade in which he flourished.
