Abstract

As a still closeted and silenced trans woman, in chapter 15, Doel Rakshit (India) explains how speaking up for anymals prepared her to speak out against trans aggression. She writes of how compassion and empathy for anymals helped her to grow compassion and empathy for oppressed human beings, including compassion for self. Rakshit shares both positive and negative experiences in the anymal activist community, calling out mainstream privilege that blocks compassion and understanding. She also speaks against the narrow blinders of single-issue activism (because this harms activists) and against heroization (because it protects perpetrators).
