Institutional Aspects of the Association Agreement Implementation between Ukraine and the EU

Abstract

The Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which was signed and ratified by the Supreme Council of Ukraine and the European Parliament in 2014, is of great strategic importance for Ukraine. An effective and successful implementation of the Agreement can become the basis for the political and economic development of Ukraine. The article intents to analyse the institutional aspects of the Association Agreement implementation between Ukraine and the EU. These aspects include both the mechanism of European integration’s coordination within the Ukrainian government and the institutional framework in the broad sense. In the first part, the article reviews the institutional structure under the Agreement and peculiarities of its interaction with the existing system of institutional support for the process of European integration of Ukraine. The bilateral institutions, established under the Agreement, in particular, the Association Council, the Association Committee, The Parliamentary Secondly, the article assesses the efficiency of the established system for the coordination of Ukraine’s policy of European integration, namely legislation basis and functioning of the Government Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. In the end, the article focuses on current problems of Association Agreement implementation and offers possible ways of improvement of the system of European integration’s coordination in Ukraine.
