Abstract

O presente artigo é uma tentativa inicial de analisar a apropriação do pragmatismo de John Dewey segundo Richard Rorty, para verificar até que ponto a “metafísica empírica” de Dewey, tão combatida por Rorty, pode ser alterada para se tornar consistente com o projeto rortyano do neopragmatismo. Nessa direção, pretendemos esclarecer a abordagem pragmatista de Dewey e suas ligações com o conceito de experiência e analisar em Rorty a modificação desse conceito. Nossa finalidade é argumentar a favor da consistência teórica da “metafísica empírica” deweyana, mostrando que ela envolve simultaneamente uma visada científica para a filosofia e é compatível com uma perspectiva historicista. Por último, pretendemos verificar a hipótese de que Rorty é deweyano não porque evitou a “metafísica empírica”, mas porque elaborou aquilo que poderia ser denominado uma "metafísica da cultura".This article is an initial attempt to analyze the appropriation of John Dewey's pragmatism of Richard Rorty, to verify what extent the "empirical metaphysics" of Dewey, as opposed to Rorty, it may be amended to be consistent with the project rortyana interpretation of pragmatism. In this sense, we intend is clarify the pragmatic approach of Dewey and his links with the concept of experience in Rorty and analyze the change that concept. Our purpose is to argue for the theoretical basis of "empirical metaphysics" Dewey, showing that it involves both a target for science and philosophy is consistent with a historicist perspective. Finally, we intend to verify the hypothesis that Rorty's Deweyan not because it avoided the "empirical metaphysics", but because he has produced what could be termed a "metaphysics of culture."
