Abstract

Previous chapter The Platonic theoretical innovations have deeply transformed the concept of rhuthmós and determined the main features of the concept of rhythm as we still know it today. By subjugating the rhuthmós to an arithmetical métron, Plato enforced his doctrine of Forms against the previous doctrines based on improvised, temporary forms or variable ways of flowing.
