Abstract

In this chapter, I define the appeal to ignorance fallacy and note some important variations on the fallacy. One obtains several versions of the fallacy depending on the kind of epistemic state that one must lack (e.g. knowledge, a proof, etc.). I then discuss several argumentative maneuvers which might appear to commit the fallacy but, plausibly, do not.
