The freedom theme has always been in the centre of life and philosophical and political discourse. Freedom is one of the magic words causing many positive emotions in everyday life. Certain social and philosophical studies highlight the ways of replacing traditional and, sometimes, spontaneous absolutization of human freedom at an empirical level of social consciousness. It lies in achieving desired results and being entitled to choose what to achieve. The difference between these “formulas” is obvious. In the second case, one (...) can observe one's acceptance of certain restrictions of freedom due to social reality and understanding that it can only be fully realized through self-restraint. However, one needs to come to such conclusions on one’s own. Practice shows that the categorical power of authorities in terms of citizens’ duties mostly leads to opposite results. Therefore, more than ever, it is essential to develop a permanent, well-developed, multi-level humanitarian programme for working with the population based on social and philosophical studies. The state needs to build the “net” of permanent special state-owned institutions since it will improve the quality of public administration, pave the way for tolerance and successful compromises. The ultimate goal of this article is to form a conscious civic position and self-determination as a result of one’s full awareness of responsibility for one’s decisions. (shrink)

Un an après l'adhésion de la Bulgarie à l'Union européenne les enjeux liés à la reconnaissance identitaire et à la sauvegarde de la langue et de la culture bulgares sont d'une importance cruciale pour l'avenir du pays. L'article questionne la problématique de la diversité culturelle, vécue en Bulgarie, au quotidien. La gestion pacifique de la diversité ethnique, malgré les difficultés existantes, a constitué un élément important pour l'intégration européenne de la Bulgarie. Face aux défis de la mondialisation et aux bouleversements (...) technologiques en cours, des efforts particuliers ont été consacrés à l'insertion des technologies de l'information et de la communication dans l'enseignement. La langue bulgare et l'alphabet cyrillique contribuent en outre à la diversité linguistique au sein de l'Union. Pour les Bulgares, la communication interculturelle et le plurilinguisme sont devenus des éléments indispensables pour la mise en oeuvre d'une réelle diversité culturelle.One year after the accession of Bulgaria to the European Union issues related to identity recognition and preservation of language and culture in Bulgaria are of crucial importance for the future of the country. The paper discusses the issue of cultural diversity, lived in Bulgaria, everyday. Peaceful management of ethnic diversity, despite the existing difficulties, has been an important element of European integration of Bulgaria. The challenges of globalization and technological changes underway, efforts have been devoted to the integration of information technology and communication in education. Bulgarian language and the Cyrillic alphabet also contribute to the linguistic diversity in the Union. For the Bulgarians, intercultural communication and multilingualism have become indispensable for the implementation of a real cultural diversity. (shrink)

To what extent is the choice of what to say driven by seemingly irrelevant cues in the visual world being described? Among such cues, how does prior description affect how we process spatial scenes? When people describe where objects are located their use of spatial language is often associated with a choice of reference frame. Two experiments employing between-participants designs (N = 490) examined the effects of visual cueing and previous description on reference frame choice as reflected in spatial prepositions (...) (in front of, to the left of, etc.) to describe pictures of object pairs. Experiment 1 examined the effects of visual and linguistic cues on spatial description choice through movement of object(s) in spatial scenes, showing sizeable effects of visual cueing on reference frame choice. Experiment 2 monitored eye movements of participants following a linguistic example description, revealing two findings: eye movement “signatures” associated with distinct reference frames as expressed in language, and transfer of these eye movement patterns just prior to spatial description for different (later) picture descriptions. Both verbal description and visual cueing similarly influence language production choice through manipulation of visual attention, suggesting a unified theory of constraints affecting spatial language choice. In this paper we investigate the effect of level of understanding revealed by feedback in the form of clarification requests from a route follower on a route giver’s spatial perspective choice in their response in route instruction dialogues. In an experiment varying the level of understanding displayed by route follower clarification requests (the independent variable), route giver perspective switching in response to this feedback is investigated. Three levels of understanding displayed by feedback are investigated: (1) low-level clarification requests indicating that (...) the instruction was not processed, (2) semantic-level clarification requests indicating that the spatial direction given in the instruction could not be resolved as the speaker of the clarification request could not interpret which perspective was intended, and (3) high-level feedback which indicates that the route giver’s instruction was understood but which note an obstacle to following the instruction. Results show that perspective choice, which is a conceptual feature of language use, is sensitive to perceived level of addressee understanding. We found that route givers consistently switch perspectives in responding to semantic-level clarification requests but not in response to low-level ones, and also that switching occurs more for high-level feedback than for low-level feedback. We address how dialogue systems can take advantage of these findings by modelling our results in an Information State model of dialogue, presenting update rules for response generation which account for our findings and also update rules which enable generation of the feedback themselves. In the study, the phenomenon of academic plagiarism is considered a result of creative scientific activity, which exists in a certain institutional design and is immersed in the appropriate environment and economic, socio-political circumstances. The study uses philosophical principles as a method—humanistic, historical, comprehensiveness and determinism, system and practice, specificity and activity. The historical retrospective shows that theft and misappropriation of other people’s intellectual property existed already in ancient societies. The prevalence of the phenomenon and the ambiguity of its interpretation (...) inspired us to explore academic plagiarism in its various aspects. (shrink)
