Social Morals in the Quran and Sunna Texts: An overview.Ruba Alshboul & Haifa Fawaris - forthcoming - European Journal for Philosophy of Religion.
The findings of this study indicate that social morals learned from the Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah are the most widely used educational ideas and practices. The descriptive-analytic method and grounded theory approach divide the research into an introduction, two articles, and a conclusion. First, the social morals and values prescribed by the Qur'an are investigated; next, the social morals and values prescribed by the Prophetic Sunnah are examined. According to the research, the most important social lessons learned from these (...)

Shifting Boundaries of Self and Other: Moroccan Migrant Women in Italy.Ruba Salih - 2000 - European Journal of Women's Studies 7 (3):321-335.
This article suggests that both the multicultural perception of ‘ community’ as a bounded and internally homogeneous body and the celebration of migrants as hybrids and anti-essentialist actors fail to acknowledge the complexity of processes of identity construction. The first reifies and essentializes migrants’ cultural identities, denying subjective contestations over notions of cultural and religious authenticity. The celebration of migrants as progressive and counterhegemonic ‘hybrids’, however, reinforces essentialist understandings of ‘migrants’, producing a hierarchy between experiences of displacement. The article suggests (...)

Acquiring Complex Communicative Systems: Statistical Learning of Language and Emotion.Ashley L. Ruba, Seth D. Pollak & Jenny R. Saffran - 2022 - Topics in Cognitive Science 14 (3):432-450.
In this article, we consider infants’ acquisition of foundational aspects of language and emotion through the lens of statistical learning. By taking a comparative developmental approach, we highlight ways in which the learning problems presented by input from these two rich communicative domains are both similar and different. Our goal is to encourage other scholars to consider multiple domains of human experience when developing theories in developmental cognitive science.
