Abstract

The point of the contact between Unamuno’s and Chekhov’s philosophy of life is the story by Chekhov «The Sinner from Toledo». The plot was borrowed by Anton Chekhov from Spanish culture. Beginning as an ardent love the marriage ends in killing the wife by the husband for the sake of being forgiven from his pre-marriage sins. It isn’t so that Chekhov typisized this episode as love in Spanish culture, he drew the attention of the reader to the intensity of love, he caught the prominent nerve of Spanish culture. The philosophical consideration of this article includes such problems: conception of death by men, suicide, the dialogue of manhood and womanhood- what takes the upper hand, what makes human life prolong. In Unamuno’s philosophy of life the following decision of theses problems is offered. The spiritual core of human life is a strong desire to have a child and not an ordinary one; this desire may push a man to a tragic way of realization. In his philosophy the spiritual strength of human intension to achieve a goal what concentrates human life, makes a dialogue with casualty, still a man should be very strong to walk his way in life. But man’s severe spiritual pressure can chase a person. Being a doctor and having given his life for the sake of human health, Anton Chekhov condemns death as a way of deciding human problems, and makes it rather in the context of Christian religion. In Chekhov’s stories people are afraid of witnessing death, suicide is considered a sin, since it shows the lack of appreciation of God’s gift- a life. In Chekhov’s philosophy of life existence sometimes seems monotonous, and everyday trifle events distract a person from tragic pushes in life. Chekhov is an optimist: there are more people of good-will than ill-natured persons. Both the writers consider human life as a case interwoven into our universe: individuals dissolve in nature. Chekhov divides man’s body into soul and flesh , Unamuno doesn’t offer ideal consideration of human life, he philosophies on the level of our reality
