Abstract

All masters of theology at the University of Paris were required to deliver an inception speech when they were inducted into the guild of masters at the conclusion of their studies. An anonymous text beginning with the words « Gyrum celi » edited by Jean Leclercq, OSB, in AHDLMA 15-17 has been identified as the inception speech delivered by the Benedictine monk Galdericus sometime during the 1258-59 school year. This Galdericus is the first regent master of theology at the College of Cluny
