Abstract

This is an important book that deserves a wide readership. Stenlund, a philosopher of unusual acumen who was trained as a mathematical logician, has written a major critique of the misleading and even disastrous philosophical consequences of the widespread attempt by analytical philosophers to apply the techniques of Hilbertian metamathematics to the study of language in general.
