Abstract

It seems that the use of the term rhythm in economics dates at the earliest from the beginning of the 20th century. Although Clément Juglar is often considered as the inventor in the 1860s of the notion of “economic rhythm,” this attribution seems actually rather incorrect and to result from an a posteriori projection. In 1856 and 1857, Juglar published two important essays: “Des crises commerciales en France de l'an VIII à 1855 – On Commercial Crises in France from 1800 to 1855” and - Économie et Marxisme – Nouvel article
