Abstract

This article focuses on alternative religion, its influence on the concept of religion and its relation to culture. The main argument of this article is that fiction based religions promote a new understanding of religion, and are a reflection of contemporary cultural trends: the emphasis on individualization and the promotion of pluralism. These phenomena lead to a broadening of the meaning of “religion.” The presented issue is exemplified by jediism.
