Sixteen contributions explore the aesthetics of socialist realism. Topics include the conventions for the positive hero, socialist realism between modernism and postmodernism, Soviet architecture, Stalin and his family in Soviet cinema, Zhdanov Art and its international relations and fallout, and postrevolutionary discourse on Chinese socialist realism. All but four of the contributions appeared in v.94, no.3 of the South Atlantic Quarterly. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.
