Ethics and the Psychology of Inspiration
Philosophy in the Contemporary World 15 (2):91-98 (2008)
Abstract
This essay summarizes Ralph D. Ellis’ view of contemporary psychological theory in order to isolate his contribution to our understanding of tragedy and its role in inspiring human beings. Then it shows that Ellis’ attempt to connect inspiration with ethics and/or moral development fails. It is the connection that fails. Ellis’ description of the human condition remains instructive.My notes
