Moving Beyond Frail Democracy: Youth-led youth studies and social policy
Abstract
This chapter claims that only rarely do critical youth studies and social policy include young people in a truly participatory way. The implications of and reasons for this failure are explored. Moreover, through evidence collected over a 3 year youth-led research programme, the chapter investigates how the tools found within the field of user-led, action research can be used for the construction of evidence-based youth policy and the development of new theoretical and methodological models for critical youth studies. A secondary aim is to identify best practices that encourage true participation of young people in decision-making and democratic structures.
