Abstract

From the second half of last century, with Jaakko Hintikka's investigations and then with him Simo Knuuttila, has been accentuated the interpretation of the aristotelian modal theory in statistical and/or diachronic terms. In this paper we want to give a synoptic account of such a theory, some of its foundations and consequences following the Aristotle's presentation in his texts and, however, having as an implicit horizon the medieval reception that has such a modal conception.
