  1. Open core and small groups in dense pairs of topological structures.Elías Baro & Amador Martin-Pizarro - 2021 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 172 (1):102858.
Dense pairs of geometric topological fields have tame open core, that is, every definable open subset in the pair is already definable in the reduct. We fix a minor gap in the published version of van den Dries's seminal work on dense pairs of o-minimal groups, and show that every definable unary function in a dense pair of geometric topological fields agrees with a definable function in the reduct, off a small definable subset, that is, a definable set internal to (...)

  • On Lovely Pairs and the (∃ y ∈ P ) Quantifier.Anand Pillay & Evgueni Vassiliev - 2005 - Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic 46 (4):491-501.
Given a lovely pair P ≺ M of models of a simple theory T, we study the structure whose universe is P and whose relations are the traces on P of definable (in ℒ with parameters from M) sets in M. We give a necessary and sufficient condition on T (which we call weak lowness) for this structure to have quantifier-elimination. We give an example of a non-weakly-low simple theory.

We consider the extent to which certain properties of definably complete structures may persist in structures which are not definably complete, particularly in the weakly o-minimal structures.

  • Weakly o-minimal nonvaluational structures.Roman Wencel - 2008 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 154 (3):139-162.
A weakly o-minimal structure image expanding an ordered group is called nonvaluational iff for every cut left angle bracketC,Dright-pointing angle bracket of definable in image, we have that inf{y−x:xset membership, variantC,yset membership, variantD}=0. The study of nonvaluational weakly o-minimal expansions of real closed fields carried out in [D. Macpherson, D. Marker, C. Steinhorn,Weakly o-minimal structures and real closed fields, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 352 5435–5483. MR1781273 (2001i:03079] suggests that this class is very close to the class of o-minimal expansions of (...)

  • Generic pairs of SU-rank 1 structures.Evgueni Vassiliev - 2003 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 120 (1-3):103-149.
For a supersimple SU-rank 1 theory T we introduce the notion of a generic elementary pair of models of T . We show that the theory T* of all generic T-pairs is complete and supersimple. In the strongly minimal case, T* coincides with the theory of infinite dimensional pairs, which was used in 1184–1194) to study the geometric properties of T. In our SU-rank 1 setting, we use T* for the same purpose. In particular, we obtain a characterization of linearity (...)

  • The elementary theory of Dedekind cuts in polynomially bounded structures.Marcus Tressl - 2005 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 135 (1-3):113-134.
Let M be a polynomially bounded, o-minimal structure with archimedean prime model, for example if M is a real closed field. Let C be a convex and unbounded subset of M. We determine the first order theory of the structure M expanded by the set C. We do this also over any given set of parameters from M, which yields a description of all subsets of Mn, definable in the expanded structure.

  • Strong cell decomposition property in o-minimal traces.Somayyeh Tari - 2020 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 60 (1):135-144.
Strong cell decomposition property has been proved in non-valuational weakly o-minimal expansions of ordered groups. In this note, we show that all o-minimal traces have strong cell decomposition property. Also after introducing the notion of irrational nonvaluational cut in arbitrary o-minimal structures, we show that every expansion of o-minimal structures by irrational nonvaluational cuts is an o-minimal trace.

  • One-basedness and groups of the form G/G00.Davide Penazzi - 2011 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 50 (7-8):743-758.
We initiate a geometric stability study of groups of the form G/G00, where G is a 1-dimensional definably compact, definably connected, definable group in a real closed field M. We consider an enriched structure M′ with a predicate for G00 and check 1-basedness or non-1-basedness for G/G00, where G is an additive truncation of M, a multiplicative truncation of M, SO2(M) or one of its truncations; such groups G/G00 are now interpretable in M′. We prove that the only 1-based groups (...)

Let R be an o-minimal field with a proper convex subring V. We axiomatize the class of all structures such that , the corresponding residue field with structure induced from R via the residue map, is o-minimal. More precisely, in Maříková [8] it was shown that certain first-order conditions on are sufficient for the o-minimality of . Here we prove that these conditions are also necessary.

  • Dp-Minimality: Basic Facts and Examples.Alfred Dolich, John Goodrick & David Lippel - 2011 - Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic 52 (3):267-288.
We study the notion of dp-minimality, beginning by providing several essential facts about dp-minimality, establishing several equivalent definitions for dp-minimality, and comparing dp-minimality to other minimality notions. The majority of the rest of the paper is dedicated to examples. We establish via a simple proof that any weakly o-minimal theory is dp-minimal and then give an example of a weakly o-minimal group not obtained by adding traces of externally definable sets. Next we give an example of a divisible ordered Abelian (...)
