  1. Multimodal Irregular Self-Selection in Chinese Postgraduate English as a Foreign Language Learners’ Conversation: When, How, and Why.Mengmeng Ji & Huiping Zhang - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Irregular self-selection is a demonstration of active involvement in interaction. English as a foreign language learners’ talk-in-interaction is one of such cases. Yet, little research has explored when, how, and why learners implement this action. The aim of this article is to address these issues in Chinese postgraduate EFL learners’ conversations from the perspective of multimodal interaction. To this end, we provide descriptive statistics and use multimodal conversation analysis to investigate the detailed process of irregular self-selection. The results show the (...)

When the Presidential Candidate Comes to Town: The Impact of Donald J. Trump’s Campaign Rallies on Local Firms’ Environmental and Social Performance.Feng Guo, Yonghong Liu, Mengmeng Wang & Yiyang Zhang - forthcoming - Journal of Business Ethics:1-22.
This study investigates how the explicitly anti-prosocial and anti-pro-environmental speech by political elites affects firms’ environmental and social performance. Using the case of the Donald J. Trump campaign for president in the United States when he gave out controversial and inflammatory remarks, including those regarding E&S issues, we find that local firms’ E&S performance decreased significantly in the year following DJT’s presidential campaign rally compared with firms in other geographic areas where there was no DJT’s presidential campaign event. A further (...)

Scientists normally earn less money than many other professions which require a similar amount of training and qualification. The economic theory of marginal utility and cost-benefit analysis can be applied to explain this phenomenon. Although scientists make less money than entertainment stars, the scientists do research work out of their interest and they also enjoy a much higher reputation and social status in some countries.

The generation of any kind of theory cannot be separated from its specific social background, and it will certainly be marked by the era. Social factors restrict the existence and development of scientific theory and these factors do not directly affect scientific theory. Their influence on the production and development of scientific theory is realized through the intermediary of prerequisite knowledge. This paper aims to analyze the two-way interaction between knowledge of premises and quantum theory in the process of development (...)

However, few studies have investigated teachers’ construction processes that form construction outcomes, which would help navigate the role of legislation in school discipline. This study contributes to a holistic picture of the neglected disciplinary rights that teachers construct in teaching practice and their underexplored attitude toward the law, using an interview-based constructionist method on twelve teachers of Lvliang city in a Chinese K-12 (...)

Marxism and Human Sociobiology: A Comparative Study From the Perspective of Modern Socialist Economic Reforms. [REVIEW]Zhang Boshu - 1987 - Biology and Philosophy 2 (4):463-474.
Modern socialist economic reforms which center on the establishment of a commodity based economic system, demand a reconsideration of human nature. Marxism and human sociobiology give different answers to questions about human nature, but neither is complete in itself. It seems timely, therefore, to suggest that a combination of biological understanding with a Marxist-based social understanding would produce a more adequate notion of human nature, thereby helping us to resolve a number of problems posed by reforms currently taking place in (...)

Robust Protocol-Based ℋ∞ Consensus Control of Time-Varying Uncertain Multiagent Systems Subject to Missing Measurements.Mengmeng Sun & Dongyan Chen - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-13.
In this paper, we consider the design problem of a robust ℋ∞ consensus controller for discrete time-varying uncertain multiagent systems with stochastic communication protocol and missing measurements. The SCP is described by a set of random variables with a known probability to arrange signal transmission of addressed multiagent systems. Moreover, we depict the missing measurement phenomenon by a sequence of Bernoulli-distributed random variables having known probabilities. The controller parameters are designed to ensure that the closed-loop DTVUMASs satisfy the ℋ∞ performance (...)

Given the omnipresence and profoundness of the ongoing pandemic from the Coronavirus disease 2019, its potential spread can be minimized through social distancing. However, this practice causes increasing difficulties and undesirability of traditional transactions or interactions. Accordingly, various manufacturing firms around the world have become more committed not only to accelerating the development of digital technologies, but also to integrating them with existing processes. In this study, we address an important issue of how manufacturing firms can adapt to the ever-changing (...)

Experiment Investigation and Numerical Simulation of Snowdrift on a Typical Large-Span Retractable Roof.Zhenggang Cao, Mengmeng Liu & Pengcheng Wu - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-14.
Retractable roofs are commonly used in designing large-span stadiums because of their versatility. However, retractable roofs are subject to sudden changes in shape, and thus, factors in addition to those considered for conventional roofs need to be taken into account. In particular, retractable roofs are considerably more sensitive to snow loads because their shapes are complex, and snowdrift on roofs may lead to difficulties for the operating of retractable roofs. To investigate the distribution of snow on retractable roofs, this study (...)

How Do Green Innovation Strategies Contribute to Firm Performance Under Supply Chain Risk? Evidence From China’s Manufacturing Sector.Mengmeng Wang & Zhaoqian Liu - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
With environmental issues increasingly becoming prominent in today’s business world, firms may need to pay extra attention to developing their environmental strategies and capabilities in response to environmental concerns and achieving sustainable growth. While a broad consensus exists on the value of green innovation, current empirical research on how different types of green innovation strategies may account for the international performance of a firm remains scant. Addressing this gap is important because determining how to better manage a firm’s green innovation (...)

Our question is whether the concept of profession may have a far wider range than the term, so that, for example, pointing out that a certain language lacks a word for “profession” in our sense, is not enough to (...)
