Mission studies at South African higher education institutions: An ethical and decolonial perspective in the quest to ‘colour’ the discipline.Eugene Baron - 2020 - HTS Theological Studies 76 (1).
The recent debate on decolonisation calls for all academic disciplines, including missiology modules, at public universities to reflect on its content, curriculum and pedagogies. However, the danger is always that to ‘de-…’ might lead to an exclusivist and essentialist pattern of a person or institution, and an act that does not take all epistemic communities seriously. Protecting our environment: The need for South African youth with a mission and black consciousness.Eugene Baron - 2021 - HTS Theological Studies 77 (2).
Christianity has contributed to environmental degradation. In terms of their role, the church youth are ipso facto part of such a contribution. Responsibility: A case for the homeless in the City of Tshwane.Eugene Baron - 2015 - HTS Theological Studies 71 (3):7.
It is without doubt that the marginalised and destitute, such as homeless people, need all the help they can get to un-shackle them from poverty-stricken circumstances. Yet the reverse side of this is that marginalised, homeless people can become too dependent on such interventions, without taking responsibility for their future outcomes and consequences. The article reports on a contextual Bible study that was conducted with the homeless people in the city of Tshwane, specifically how they responded to the Lord’s Prayer (...)

The questions for post-apartheid South African missiology in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.Eugene Baron - 2020 - HTS Theological Studies 76 (2):11.
South African missiology has seen a shift in its praxis since the late 20th century. David J. Bosch made a crucial contribution in this regard. The shift includes mission as a contextualised praxis and agency. In mission studies, agency has become necessary in postcolonial mission, primarily because of the loss of identity of the oppressed in colonised countries. Through contextual theologies of liberation, African theology, Black Theology of Liberation and postcolonial studies, theologians were able to reflect on the human dignity (...)
