Abstract
The article deals with the theoretical and practical aspects of applied methods of political research while public monitoring of the election process activity in Ukraine. The definitions and a brief description of the key methods of public monitoring and other methods, including those derived from other spheres primarily sociology) are given. Some types of survey methods, exit polls, focus groups, quickcount, and casestudy are characterized. The conclusions of the following are made. Mass and experts surveys are focused on the diagnostics of public and experts’ opinion on an issue, determining by the characteristics of the monitoring field at this stage, on construction and forecasts of further changes in this field, the elections result and so on. Focus groups aimed at involving of members of determined with research subjects groups and experts to discussion of the issues related to monitoring activities, making recommendations for governments and local authorities, preparation of joint documents, resolutions, development of monitoring activities strategy. Exitpoll and quickcount are used on the day of elections for a parallel vote counting and making comparison with the official results. Casestudies is a method to demonstrate the intensity of administrative resources usage, its types, forms, methods and technologies.
