Abstract

The article analizes the hidden metaphysics of an antimetaphysical thinker. Hobbes, really, refuses scholastic metaphysics and develops his own philosophia prima . This metaphysics is based on: his own interpretation of Aristotle as a materialist and sensualist, his extreme nominalism derived from Occam, his materialism of undetermined origin and the method of the new science of Galilei which leads to his methodic atheism. According to these principles the article revises his metahysics and ontology, his epistemology, his psychology, ethics and philosophy of language, showing the unity of his thought and besides the paradigmatic character of this with regards to modern thought.El artículo analiza la metafísica oculta de un pensador antimetafísico. Hobbes, en realidad, rechaza la metafísica escolástica y desarrolla su propia philosophia prima. Esta metafísica se basa en: su propia interpretación de Aristóteles como materialista y sensualista, su extremo nominalismo derivado de Occam, su materialismo de origen no determinado y el método de la ciencia nueva de Galileo que conduce a su ateísmo metódico. De acuerdo a estos principios el artículo pasa revista a su metafísica y ontología, su epistemología, psicología, ética y filosofía del lenguaje demostrando así la unidad de su doctrina y de paso el carácter paradigmático de ésta en relación al pensamiento moderno
