Abstract
The essay addresses the definition and status of public intellectuals in relation to the work of Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht. Accepting the definition of Richard Posner, it suggests that most people in the humanities are not, and need not imagine they are, public intellectuals and that Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht has gradually become a public intellectual.Links
