Abstract

Releeremos de un modo contrastivo las configuraciones utópicas de esos dos grandes textos doxológicos –tomando el término que propone Marc Angenot, para referirse a una categoría amplia que incluye y excede el ensayo de interpretación-, dos textos que ciertamente dialogan en un mismo tono pero difieren notablemente en la forma y disposición discursiva: “La utopía de América” del dominicano Pedro Henríquez Ureña, y La raza cósmica, del mexicano José Vasconcelos. En ambos se pone de manifiesto la estrecha relación que guarda la imaginación utópica latinoamericana con el contexto sociopolítico y la praxis social. Una evaluación crítica contextual es necesaria para comprender el énfasis proyectivo tan particular del discurso utópico de esa época y el valor ‘movilizador’ de la utopía, reivindicado por Arturo Andrés Roig –quizás el principal responsable de la vigencia del estudio de la utopía en la historia de las ideas latinoamericanas- como “dimensión que integra de modo absolutamente legítimo todo discurso de futuro”. We read over and oppose the utopian designs of two great doxological texts –a term proposed by Marc Angenot to refer to a broad category that includes and exceeds the interpretation essay-. These texts, that share a tone but largely diverge on form and discursive nature, are "The Utopia of America” by Pedro Henríquez Ureña and “The Cosmic Race” by the Mexican José Vasconcelos. There is in both works a clear relationship between the Latin American utopian imagination and the socio-political context. A contextual evaluation is necessary to understand the emphatic planning nature and the “mobilizing” character of the utopian discourse of that time. This discourse was recovered by Arturo Andrés Roig, who is perhaps the main responsible for the inclusion of the utopia – “a dimension that legitimately integrates every discourse on the future”- in the history of the Latin American ideas.
