Abstract

Ogyū Sorai formulated an original view of the history of the Classics. In his understanding, Confucius was the turning point: with him, the character of the Classics underwent a fundamental change. This view had enough destructive power to deconstruct the orthodox Neo-Confucian view of the Classics, which made use of the genealogical concept of the genealogy of the Way.
