Abstract

This collection provides a selection of works on psychiatric nursing by Hildegard E. Peplau. Peplau is best known for her development of an interpersonal relations theory. This theory holds that nurse and patient participate in and contribute to the relationship, and that it can be, in itself, therapeutic. This volume contains many papers previously unpublished, covering not only her theory of interpersonal relations, but also basic concepts in psychology, nursing education, the therapeutic mileu and the role of theory in nursing.
