Abstract

We have been witnessing the explosion of extreme violence without limits and rules ever since the end of the Cold War – first ethnical conflicts, then terrorism and later some aspects of the war against terrorism, such as torture. Recently, the awareness has been born that it corresponds with the less evident but more pervasive violence coming from the power structure, specifically the one that dominates globalization. Faced with this situation, philosophy that has reflected on this subject ever since the Ancient Greeks is led to re-think its diagnosis and develop a reflection on its phenomenon for our concept of mankind.
