Abstract

Kant has explained his view on modality and modal concepts in general in different sections of the Critique of Pure Reason such as the "Metaphysical Deduction", "Schematism", and the "Postulates". However, he discusses the issue of existence in particular mainly under the topic of "The Impossibility of an Ontological Proof of the Existence of God." The proof—known as the "ontological argument"—was first presented by St. Anselm and later revised by Descartes, Leibniz, and contemporary philosophers like Norman Malcolm and Alvin Plantinga.
