Abstract

The book is not about the brain, neurons and synapses. These issues are only marginally mentioned. It reaches the substance of the matter. How does a strange sense of consciousness arise in the the brain jelly? How the inner sense of self is generated? How is it that we understand what we look at, what we feel with our senses and how can we understand the phenomena that are happening around us, anticipate their effects and plan optimal reactions? It is an attempt to reach the essence of consciousness. To do this, the authors propose to imagine a perfect structure which process the information in a specific way. And then they indicate that such structures exist in the brains of humans and animals and that they just produce the mind. Then they prove that it is possible to build artificial brains with the same properties. And then ... interesting consequences for psychology, ethics and philosophy in an accessible form.
