Abstract

Among the books given to the library of Trinity College, Cambridge, by Archbishop Whitgift during his tenure as master of the college is the Liber cosmographiae , a beautifully illustrated compendium of popular science in 104 chapters. This unique manuscript was compiled by John de Foxton, a Yorkshire cleric, and came into the possession of the Trinitarian house of St. Robert, near Knaresborough, where it remained until the dissolution.
