Tao, Human and History: Three Dimensions of Zhi in Huai Nan-Zi and Their Historical Significance

Abstract

"Huai Nan Zi" in theory "cure" for the book theme, and its theory of government and from the "Tao", "person", "history" started three dimensions: First, the channel is "Huainanzi" On the basis of governance, Road has the power to cure; Second, the artificial "Huainanzi" On the governance of the center, people can conquer nature; Third, the history of "Huai Nan Zi" Treating the starting point of history there is evidence of rule use. His book on the "Road", "person", "history" of the concept of understanding and use of resources not only reflects the profound impact of the pre-Qin thought, but also shows the tendency of early Han Zhiyong academic and pragmatic. Focused on discussing zhi, Huai Nan-ti developed its theory from three aspects. Firstly, Tao was the foundation of the theory, which had the function of zhi or governance. Secondly, Roman was the aim of the theory, which had the administrable attribute . Thirdly, History was the basis of the theory, which had the utility in validating the way of governance. Reviewing the interpretation and usage of Tao, Human and History in Huai Nan-zi, we can detect the profound impact of pre-Qin period's ideaistic resource and the pragmatic incline in early Han period's academia
