Abstract

The relationship between art and suffering is determined by art’s ability to represent its subjects without defining them. It is a process of subtraction rather than one of sheer imitation. This practice allows access to the core of suffering as the defining trait of human existence. The cathartic nature of art translates into a therapeutic experience, creating new emotional and interpersonal bounds.
