Rheumatoid arthritis is a progressive systemic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of the joints and surrounding tissues, which seriously affects the life of patients. The Sharp/van der Heijde method has been widely used in clinical evaluation for the RA disease. However, this manual method is time-consuming and laborious. Even if two radiologists evaluate a specific location, their subjective evaluation may lead to low inter-rater reliability. Here, we developed an efficient model powered by deep convolutional neural networks to solve these problems (...) and automated the overall scoring on hand X-rays. The depthwise separable convolution technique is used based on ResNet-50 due to the high resolution of hand X-rays. An inverted residual block is introduced to devise a ResNet-Dwise50 model to enhance the efficiency of the model. The model was trained and tested using bilateral posteroanterior images of 3818 patients. The experiment results show the ResNet-Dwise50 model achieved an MAE of 14.90 and RMSE of 22.01 while ensuring high efficiency. There was no statistical difference between the average scores given by two experienced radiologists and predicted scores from our model. (shrink)

A topological index is a numeric quantity related with the chemical composition claiming to correlate the chemical structure with different chemical properties. Topological indices serve to predict physicochemical properties of chemical substance. Among different topological indices, degree-based topological indices would be helpful in investigating the anti-inflammatory activities of certain chemical networks. In the current study, we determine the neighborhood second Zagreb index and the first extended first-order connectivity index for oxide network O X n, silicate network S L n, chain (...) silicate network C S n, and hexagonal network H X n. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the activity of the human glymphatic system in type 2 diabetes mellitus using diffusion tensor image analysis along with the perivascular space.Methods: Diffusion tensor images were acquired to calculate the diffusivities in the direction of the x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis of the plane of the lateral ventricle body in 20 patients with type 2 diabetes and 10 people in a control group. We evaluated the diffusivity along with the perivascular spaces, as well as the projection (...) fibers and association fibers, separately. The analysis along the perivascular space was defined as the mean /mean, where the Dxpro and Dxasc were the Dx values in the projection and association fiber areas, respectively.Results: There were significant differences in diffusivity along the projection fibers and the association fibers among the groups. The significant differences among the groups along the perivascular spaces, shown as the ALPS-index and medical history of T2DM, indicating lower water diffusivity along the perivascular space concerning type 2 diabetes severity, was also observed.Conclusion: Lower diffusivity along the perivascular space on DTI-APLS can reflect impairment of the glymphatic system in T2DM. This study showed that the activity of the glymphatic system could be evaluated by diffusion tensor image analysis. (shrink)
