The Thought of Chinese Vinaya School
Abstract
Lvzong by Dao Xuan to create, according to the "four laws" and the establishment of the sect, the main work is to elucidate the contents of the Vinaya. With the roof, Hua-yen, compared to Zen and other sects, Lvzong less impressive on the characteristics of the argumentation. However, Dao Xuan advocate Vinaya Yoshimichi Mahayana; absorb Consciousness thinking to quit the body understood as alaya in the hi seeds, so quit the body to become spiritual enlightenment of the final basis, and for holding prisoners, sin, commandments of the species, to facilitate Fanjie and some law school on the subject, Dao Xuan have put their own unique interpretation, this is plainly E shows the law school's unique position in practice, not to free school special beauty. The above activities are worthy of those who pay attention to the study of Chinese Buddhism. Vinaya school, focused on the elaboration of the monastic regulations on the base of Four Fart Vinaya, was regarded to be found by Daoxuan in Tang dynasty. By contrast with Tiantai, Huayen, Chan etc., Vinaya school showed less interest in philosophical investigation. However, Daoxuan claimed that the doctrine of the Four Part Vinaya anticipated the spirit of Mahayana teachings and the essence of the precepts was karmic "seed" which being the underlying force for attaining Buddhahood. Also, Daoxuan put forward his own ideas and intrepertations on the status of vinaya, classification of regulations, nature of guilty etc.. From then on, vinaya plays a vital position in Buddhist studies. All these should be considered by serious Buddhist scholars.
