Abstract

What has been the impact of the socialist market economy on the circumstances of women's lives today? This collection presents original research on a range of key topics: women and politics, gender and migration, the effect of new employment relations in industry and agriculture, women's role in the household and attitudes to the one-child family, and the development of women's studies. Uniquely positioned as women social scientists from China, the contributors address vital issues in current debates on gender equality and social transition.
