Shafei's Feature and Value as the Figure of "Modern Girl"

Abstract

Because the "deviant," the brushstrokes and characters of the "Modern Girl" attitude, Ding Ling's "Miss Sophie's Diary" has become an enduring works. In the novel's inception in the 1930s, people's understanding and awareness of the image of Sophie produced differences. After the founding of New China, Sophie is modern literature since the 1980s, researchers and women's literature researchers as modern women, "rebellious" spirit and the pursuit of "the same body and soul," the typical love, with her ​​modern "Modern Girl" atmosphere and the metaphor of social attitude, and cultural nature was obscured and ignored. In fact, "Miss Sophie's Diary" on the new literary and unique contribution to modern literary history, is it a symbol of "Modern Girl" image-building of the era, the Enlightenment ideology of metaphor to the urban decadence of modern civilization, historical conflicts arising from the restructuring and spiritual pain. Ding Ling's Miss Shafei's Dairy has been a famous work for a long time because of its abnormal style of writing and the modern figure. There were some different evaluations for Miss Shafei's figure at the early beginning of China modern novels in the 1930s. Shafei had been regarded as the model of modern woman who sought to love freedom with revolting spirit in 1950s and 1980s.
